Vermillion Flycatcher. This diminutive bird is spectacular. There has been a pair hanging out just outside the front gate to Sunbeam Lake RV Resort since late 2011. Look for them in the scattered trees in the grassy area SE of the playground equipment shelter. You might also find them across the road toward the baseball fields. They perch in upper branches and fly out to catch bugs in mid-air. They are most active early in the morning. Some days they are difficult to find. The male is pictured. The female has very subdued plumage but does show vermillion tinged gray on the breast and under parts. The size of a small sparrow.
