Lodgepole Campground Stars
Taken at Lodgepole Campground near Chinook Pass, WA. Star trail images are created by taking several long exposure images (perhaps 30 images, each of which may be 2-3 minutes). Each image records a slight movement of the stars relative to the earth. These images are then "stacked" to form this composite. At the center of the arcs of the star trails is the North Star, Polaris, which remains stationary relative to the movement of the earth. This is a challenging exercise which requires some experimenting with settings and a bit of patience. The deep blue in this image is possible to capture in the image due to the clear atmosphere and the lack of light pollution.
